I am frequently asked as to my thoughts on the best book available to give a newcomer the knowledge to be able to write their first ebook.
Jim Edwards & Joe Vitale's "How To Write and Publish Your Own eBook in as little as 7 Days" is a favourite along with Terry Gibb's "How To Write an eBook"
However both of these have been out for some time...is there something new and or updated that you believe could be beneficial to a first timer?
I look forward to your suggestions.
Cheers

I feel planning = procrastination when it comes to eBooks. My advice is just to write it in MS Word, convert it to a PDF and that's it.
I don't mean that you shouldn't plan out the chapters. I think it is important to jot down some notes (chapter names) that will assist you in moving through the information you want to provide in a logical manner. This gives you an outline to follow... which is good and flexible if need be.
I mean by procrastination, the putting off of the project based on a fear factor, that is preventing you from accomplishing your goal... which is, to, simply write the eBook.
Open MS Word, and start your guideline and chapter names now. I use MS Word for this too and then print if off. Use pen and paper can get real messy when you start scratching out things as you edit your initial guideline.
A good example of a guide line can be seen on my carsite-marketing.com. It shows my main headers and sub-headers.

Good advice Steve,
But for those that are seeking a step by step guide what is your suggestion as to a suitable publication that they should consider?
Many people feel more comfortable if they have a basic plan to follow, like, first do this and then this etc....
Any comments?
Cheers

Hi Kevin,

I wouldn't have a suitable suggestion as I've never used a guide.
If something is worth doing, it is worth doing badly until you can learn to do it better. I'm living proof of that. I still don't run my office well, and I hate all the paperwork. I figured the first thing to do was to get started making some money, and learn all the other stuff later. And I really do plan on learning it... later.

You do make a good point, Steve - but everyone isnt as confident in their abilities... even in "getting started".
The absolute best I have read is The One Minute Ebook by Fabio Marciano: http://www.theoneminuteebook.com
(Kevin: his affiliate program converts VERY well, too, if you want to make this a regular in your recommendations).
I wrote this in my last issue of SSWT, regarding Fabio's OME:
There is a lot more to this little gem than meets the eye!
As you know, I am in the process of writing my first ebook...
and I am using OME as a complete step-by-step guide to lead
me through the entire process.
If you would like to write an original book, or ebook, this
will be the best $27 that you can invest in your project.
Everything you need to consider - from the topic to the
formatting... right down to the sales process - is right
there in black and white for you.
See my review of The One Minute Ebook online at:
http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/product-review.htm
I can tell you this much: In two days, I wrote half of my
book. I opened up The One Minute Ebook and scanned the
chapter headings. I did a bit of "speed reading" through
the chapters that I knew I needed to learn the most on. I
then printed out the "how to" steps from several sections...
and then I began to gather my resources, create my outline
- and WRITE.
|
