Many companies that have never before had a web presence are now shifting their marketing efforts towards trying to reach consumers online.

This move is not restricted to major companies but also includes small mom and pop businesses that often trade out of your local suburban shopping centre.

My question is this...When shopping for your next purchase do you go straight to the net and compare what is available or do you go direct to your local storeowner that you possibly already have a relationship with?

I'm would be interested in your feedback.

Cheers Wink

I think it's a nobrainer. You've got access to hundreds if not thousands of online stores (not including all the "mini stores" on eBay) that are all competing with each other, so finding a heavily discounted item is much more easy than finding one on the streets.

I guess what I have been doing more and more, is using the web to research my next purchase -- but 99% of it is done locally.

For example: this week I replaced my monitor. I used online resources to help me find local vendors that were selling them, and compared prices. I wound up on Staple's website, and found my monitor there. Then I drove down to the store and bought it.

I've often browsed Canadian Tire inventory online. When I find something I want, I drive down to the store and buy it.

I'm also doing the same thing looking for my next vehicle.

Best Regards,

I live in a very small town. I have to drive to another town just to be able to find a decent selection of groceries. Almost all of my research and a large percentage of my purchases are online. Even when I do business locally, I'll often look for websites.

I recently needed a lawyer. First I looked in the yellow pages. I chose one firm that specialized in the area I needed and went to their website to get a better feel for them. I liked their information online, so then I called and set up an appointment. If they hadn't had a website, I might have moved on to a company that had.

Lately I have been finding myself shopping and comparing prices and products online. Most of my friends do the same so I think it is smart for businesses to have a website.

I think online shopping will just get bigger and bigger.
