It seems that PLR rules the net at the moment.
Is this simply because it cuts down the work time for many an allows them to take a product to market quickly or is there something I'm missing?

No you are not missing anything, PLR offers some great opportunities.
In some cases it's a simple cut and paste job and you can have a short book or a series of articles ready in no time.
If you have a hungry market looking for information on a particular topic PLR can give you the edge in the market if you react quickly.
My only concern would be to make sure that the PLR material you buy is good quality because if you have to rework it to much then it's value as a purchase diminishes somewhat.
