For chatting with friends and my online boss, I usually use yahoo messenger (YIM). I also have msn but I like yahoo better because the smilies are good looking and we can send offline messages.
I am sure there are other instant message (IMs) out there like ICQ, Skype, etc. Which among these do you like to use and why? |

| I used to use Trillium, which combined all the services... anyone still use it and is it still around? |

I started off (about eight years ago) using ICQ, and that's still my preferred chat app. But I guess it's relatively archaic now.
Thumperfive, I used to use Trillium as well. I don't know if it's still around, but it was pretty handy! |

Google have just produced one too that comes with their gmail. You have to have a gmail acct to use it.
Myself and a friend are meant to be trying it out, when we can arrange a mutual time. |

In my humble opinion Skype leads in this field, the number of users grows every day and given the cost (Nil) you can't get much better!
Clearly it is a personal choice as to what you use but I think we are all extremely spoilt for choice...only a few years ago about the quickest way to share a message was by using a "carrier pidgeon"
Oh how times change!!!
Cheers

So true, Kevin. Forms of communication have changed drastically in the past half century. I think we live in exciting times!
I must get Skype, especially as it is free. It's owned by ebay, isn't it? |

| We use MSN messenger at work but I dont' do IM chat at home. I email, blog and post in forums. I think I got soured on IM's when I had AOL. I was the chat leader for several rooms and my IMs would not stop whenever I was online. Actually was very stressfull.. |

only problem is that you can get spammers there as well - first time I installed AIM I got hit by a number of women looking for "dates"!

As someone that is a little slow to pick up on technology could someone please give me a bit of an overview of Skype and how it works, or more to the point how I use it.
Regards

| I use yahoo messenger and once in awhile AIM. For some reason I could never get MSN to work very well on any of my computers. |
