I want to set up a PayPal Buy it Now button on my site as I intend marketing a few simple items shortly.
My question however is this, How secure is this setup?
Is it open to abuse and do I need to use some additional software to protect myself from those that might attempt to rip me off?
Regards

As far as I know you should be pretty safe. The Buy Now buttons are encrypted and is almost impossible to hack. The only exception to this is if you add input fields to your button - PayPal states that there is an increased risk of value changes if you do this.

I don't use PAYPAL often but have never had a security problem with them and for some small projects PAYPAL is ideal.

PayPal is probably the most popular way to transfer money on the web.
It's extremely secure, and well known to most online businesses. What I really like about PayPal is that I don't have to share my personal information with other websites. PayPal is the only site who has my information, and they send the money to the business from my account.

I have Buy It Now buttons (although they are never used) on one site I have. I have no problem with it. You just have to be careful with Paypal, obviously, but some people just don't get it.

It's all about what you do with it, I use paypal alot, and the only thing you need to remember when using it is the subscriptions, make sure you read everything before you click "pay" as it will let you know if the payment will setup a subscription and for when it will be done. I've known people who overlooked it thinking it was a 1 time payment and started seeing charges they didn't think of.

I use PayPal everyday and have never had any problems out of them! I have used them since 2003! Their security is through the roof and they do everything they possibly can to protect paypal transactions that take place between you and other members.

I don't think you need any additional software. I trust paypal very much because I think they have a very good security system so I suggest that you just go ahead and install your button.

As an aside how many of you have actually set up Paypal buttons on your site?
From my experience the setup is not that difficult but the buttons don't seem to work on every occasion as I get prospective purchasers from time to time indicating that the button gives them a 404 or the link fails to work.
Is it just me or have I incorrectly set it up?
Anyone care to walk me through the set up process that they use?
Cheers
