|
|
Forum members here have provided some great advise but I am still a little unclear as to which direction I want to go in building an online business.
It has been suggested that I could learn some good sound marketing principles by selling a product or two on eBay.
This appeals to me as it requires little investment but I really need to understand a little more clearly how to do things.
eBay has a good help / Q&A section but I was wondering if there was a good book or online help site that could offer more detail, a quick search on Google reveals hundreds on books and other aids but a recommendation would be good?
Anyone?

NetBiz,
In my opinion starting to learn marketing via eBay is a good choice, eBay's Q&A section is really all you need, there is little point spending money on a book at this stage.
Give it a go and if you like working and earning with eBay then over time you may want to improve your knowledge on specific areas of the process, this is the time when we could recommend something suitable.
Good Luck.
Cheers

NetBiz,
Martin Avis recently made a thought provoking post on his http://www.kickstartdaily.com/blog/ in regards to the Top 10 tips when using eBay.
The post offers some good advice.
I trust this helps.
Cheers

Thanks Kevin,
Martin's article is a good read, it goes to show that all is not plain sailing with eBay and it pays to be cautious.
It's amazing that there is always someone in the world trying to take advantage of another and the article highlighted an issue that many of us were not aware of.
I appreciate the link.

| eBay can be a bad place...but once you use common sense it will work out without a doubt...only buy from people with an excellent rating/near perfect and those who are powersellers...that's what I do. |

Many people have been very successful starting out on eBay, some continue full time and have made a business out of it.
It's all about being careful, in fact it's no different to owning an offline business, be honest, reliable and considerate of others.
Look at it this way, when shopping in a supermarket you check out a number of products within a range, be it price, quality, brand name, support, warranty etc then you should use the same technique at eBay.
Compare, check, ask questions before buying and selling and the risk to you will be minimal.
eBay also has some protection in place for you as well, so read the rules and this will give you a good grounding to start.

| Here's (http://www.kickstartdaily.com/blog/index.php?/archives/361-Ten-Tips-that-eBay-Novices-Must-Read.html) an updated link for the post that Kevin previously linked to. It's a great read - I've actually considering selling my product on eBay for quite a long time. I think I might go ahead with it tonight! |

I personally don't like selling on ebay, but it can be a good place to sell your stuff. There are so many buyers on ebay. If you ever want more than one photo for your auction, check out http://www.auctiva.com. You can have multiple pictures for free, and you can also save templates of your auctions to use again. You can post your auctions straight to ebay from the Auctiva site.
Auctiva is free to use. |

I'm quite happy to pay eBay the fee just for the fact that my auction is almost guaranteed to be viewed multiple times, no matter how unique or odd the item may be. It'll almost always sell too. |

I've been using eBay for a little while now and I really like it very much. I think it is a good option to try eBay first because there you can see what people like and don't like about the market and things of that matter.
There are lots of books around that talk about eBay but I personally own an EBOOk that has told me pretty much everything that I needed to know about eBay if you are interested just PM me for more details. I'll be more that happy to help you out. |
