Hi,

I came across two incredible niches recently that are totally undiscovered or overlooked. How did I find them? By looking around my own life and focusing on some of the areas that interest me. It gave me a completely different perspective to marketing online. Up till now I was always on the look-out for products which I thought would convert well and which had a high commission. It didn't even matter if I had no knowledge about the actual product. I was looking purely at building my cheque.

There are so many niche markets out there waiting to be tapped. A lot of them are right under our noses but we fail to see them because we are too focused on 'making money'! I would be interested to know other members experiences with finding niche products. How did you come across them?...Without giving away your secrets obviously! Wink

Declan,

You are so right, golden opportunities are often missed because we are narrow focussed, failing to look outside the square often leaves the best opportunities untouched.

In marketing circles you will hear the comment, work with your hobbies, the skills you have or expand on the knowledge of others.

Sometimes a potential market winner is right in front of us be we fail to see it or believe anyone else may interested.

I have an automotive background and recently stumbled on a niche within the industry that I am currently working on...the sad part is that this niche has been available for some time but I failed to recognise it.

Yours is a timely message Declan, everyone should stop and take another look at their life experience, you may just have the next runaway success within your grasp!!!

Cheers Wink

V. good point! Thats the thing most people forget. For instance in your case Kevin you could stumble across a niche in the automotive industry that is relatively undiscovered because most people are only promoting Commission Junction or ClickBank merchants or never even knew such a product/service existed. There are tons of merchants offering revenue sharing programs that are not even listed on affiliate networks. The skill is finding a niche that no-one else has even thought of. I work on the theory that if there is more than six adword ads on a page for a particular keyword I will leave it. A lot of the time I have been the only sponspored listing on a page for a particular niche.

Declan,

An expansion on my earlier response is to consider products that are currently selling well on the Internet that fall into your preferred skill range.

What I mean by this is; Say I am an Automotive expert, then I would seek out products that are selling well in this field.

I would then research the product or service using my industry experience and see how I could build on the current good fortune this product or service is getting.

It may be I can put a new twist on the product and effectively play off the original products success or alternatively it may lead me to a potential new product that may be of interest to the clients that purchased the intial product I researched.

My options then are to develop and market the product myself or perhaps form a JV with the initial marketer, after all they have access to a ready market.

Opportunities are always around, you just need to consider how you can offer a benefit to the purchaser whilst retaining a good margin for yourself.

That's why marketing is a fun industry...it's ever changing!!

Cheers Wink

Here is an article I wrote for my blog today:

You here a lot of talk on the Internet about niche markets. People wonder how they can find them, identify them, and market goods and service to them. A common trend I see with so many new people coming online is they want to learn how to use the Internet to make money but make the mistake of trying to market to the same crowd that taught them how.

Here is the problem with this...

Many of these people aren't credible. If one is desperately struggling to find a way to make an extra $500 per month on the Internet, it is hard to convince people to buy one's newly created info product promising the purchaser wealth.

Take the information that can be learned and set your sites on markets outside of the "get rich" crowd.

In the March 2001 issue of my HomeBusiness Journal I wrote about Cyberspace Inmates:
This site is run by a Missouri minister, Rev. Rene Mulkey, who posts inmates messages online and funnels responses back to the inmates. Her client list consists of 1,600 prisoners nationwide and she charges them each $10 per month to handle their accounts.

She claims lawyers use the site to find clients, religious leaders use it to minister to prisoners, and college students use it to study prison conditions and the death penalty.
I don't know how many inmates are currently subscribed but Rene says "I work at this full time ten hours a day seven days a week."

Since the site has won several awards, and has been featured on TV, talk shows, in many local and regional papers, talk radio and several magazines I would have to assume that her client list is well over 1600 by now, and for the money she is making it shouldn't be too hard of a job to find a few others to receive the emails, print them off and deliver them.

I hope this article will help to open your eyes to the possibilities.

Best Regards,
Steve MacLellan

Some very good points raised.
I think the point about new people trying to make money is especially valid. The general trend is for people to search for opportunities, visit marketing sites etc.
The mistake that most of them then make is to get caught up in the whole scene.

You know the sort of thing.
Join a program selling "make $million by next week" or similar.
Perhaps start a newsletter on the subject.
Worse still, try to create their own product on making money.

If you never made money yourself, you can't teach me how to!
The other point about this is if you think things through,
these people are trying to make money by selling to people
who need to make money - so in theory don't have much spending power.

What they should be doing is getting involved in something that appeals
to people who have spending power.
If you provide a product or service that people want or need and those people are willing and able to pay your price, you will make money.

There are lots of these niches.
All of us have many interests.
If you are interested in something, then others will be too.
If the people interested are likely to have money to spend,
Congratulations! - you've found a winner.
