The newest thing that I hear for DVD's is blue ray. What do you guys know about. Think this will be a change in the industry, or just a temporary fad?
Also, what are some of the applications that you see for this technology beyond their use for movies?

| The immediate difference is the use of a blue laser, rather than a red laser. It is my understanding that it works with HD stuff. So its success, will be determined by how far HD goes. |

About six months ago I purchased a sony HD ready TV. I didn't get HD cable until a few months ago, however. I really love HD programming, and I can't wait until all of the TV channels go over to HD. I think that HD is here to stay, though I don't know if that will be the case with blue ray, as it may be passed up by a newer technology before it ever really comes into common use.
Looking at an HD picture is just incredible. I am curious how much larger the file sizes for a movie that is in HD than the regular ones. Particularly because this could affect the growing industry of streaming movies to our computers, and maybe one day to our TV's. |

| I think blue ray will take over and become the next format, like how DVD replaced VHS and so on. I don't think HD-DVD will last much longer though. |

I have no doubt that Blu Ray will be the next standard for home movies - the quality is unbeatable and really does blow HD-DVD out of the water.
The only issue at the moment is cost... one movie can set you back $55! |
