does anyone know if seo algorithms weigh your domain name when considering relevancy? if so, how important is it to have your potential keyword in the domain name?
thanks,

| I've owned a couple of sites where the domain name contained the exact keywords I was targetting (and it was a fairly competitive niche too). Within a month I ranked 2nd for that particular keyword with very little link building and advertising. |

This is good to know! I am in the process of building my new site...I have just the bare bones up at this time, and now feel pretty secure with the domain I chose...phew! |

| Well I believe that it weighs heavily but I don't own any domains that have keywords in them...except the word tech I guess. |

| Having your keywords in your domain name does provide a resonable benefit but remember to keep it user friendly, if the domain name is to long and looks spammy it can backfire. |

More so from a linking perspective.
Many site will just link to your url and not use anchor text, thats where the keywords in the domain come in handy.
Cheers, Chris. |

It's certainly not vital. Look at the most popular sites--google, ebay, youtube, myspace. They all have names that are easy to remember but are not keywords.
I do however think that it's good to get keyword rich domain names, especially for niche sites. Just make sure that your name is easy to remember and user friendly. |
