I'm sure we have all done it, downloaded the latest piece of software or an eBook, all the free stuff that seems to be available these days.
So once you have downloaded it, do you actually try or use the software?
Have you read that eBook or report?
What do you do with all this material stored on your computer?
Do you file it neatly or does it just lay around unused, unread and forgotten?
Is it time for you to have a clean out or do you have some good ways in which you manage this information?
Let's hear what you do.
Cheers

| Thankyou for reminding me, Kevin - it's actually time that I had a clear out! I think I do end up with a lot of stuff left unread, or unused, on my computer. |

I think that spring cleaning is really a necessary thing to keep a machine running well, and keep your computer organized. I really try to make sure that put on a clean windows install once or twice a year. I have to say that putting on a new install is really a pain in the ass, but it makes a machine run some much better. I think that we all have to admit that over time windows installs tend to bog down. There are many possible explanations, maybe some resource intensive apps, or heaven forbid spyware, but the end result is that my computer doesn't run well.
To get ready for my spring cleaning, I transfer all the files I want to keep over to another hard drive. This way I can clean install windows on a fresh hard-drive. Sometimes this transfer isn't so easy or cheap, because it requires a new hard drive, but the reality is that it has by far worked the best for me.
The thing that kills me about doing this, is that it takes so long to put on all the apps that use again. Whether it be adobe reader, or word, it just takes forever to get everything back up. And inevitably, I will forget something, then go to use it and realize that it isn't there. None the less, Spring cleaning is mandatory. |
