| Word is that Google is coming out with an alternative to Paypal, which is owned by Ebay. It will be interesting to see what will happen if Google is successful, and paypal loses customers. |

| Being first in the market is worth a great deal. Since so many people are PayPal members and it's so well established, I can't see people suddenly abandoning it. |

I hadn't heard about this before. Google seem to do things very well, IMO. I use PayPal myself, and it seems to work OK for me, but I have heard of some people having problems with it.
Transferring money internationally is becoming quite important with the growth of international e-commerce. I sell on eBay, and I have never seen any reason why I should restrict my sales to people living in the UK.
I look forward to seeing what Google come up with. If their alternative is a little cheaper than PayPal, who make significant charges per transaction, then I may be tempted to give Google a try. |

I heard about this a couple weeks ago on CNBC. There was a discussion about whether or not google should be getting into the market as a Paypal competitor.
Personally, I have not had any real problems with Paypal, and I can't argue with the convenience of their service. What will make google better is if they, say charge less for credit card payments. Also, it is my understanding that Paypal has a problem with being used for things like the purchase of "adult oriented" material. Even though Ebay, who owns Paypal, has a listing of over 64,000 items that fall into this category???? |

| I don't think ebay will be overjoyed if people try to use gBuy on their auction site, as they own PayPal. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to "make it difficult". |

Ebay is simply the middle man (or middle woman if you want to play the pc game). They cannot control how a a seller collects the payment.
"Then on Friday, news hit that eBay had placed Google Checkout on a list of payment services that it deems not acceptable for its community of merchants. eBay says the chief reason Google Checkout didn't make the cut was that it is too new and unproven. What's more, eBay merchants can still choose to use it for payments if they want. "
