With the latest release of Firefox you can download and have an extension automatically installed called Sage. I'm not going to go into any great detail here, but if you would like to know more about it, read this post on my blog: Click here for the post
So, back to the topic...
Visitors don't have to come to your site to check if you made any new blog posts, and for those who can't get your newsletter past their spam filters... they can still stay get your content if you post it to a blog that is RSS enabled.
A picture (or two) speaks a thousand words, so let's use Kevin's blog as an example. We visit his site using Firefox and hit the keys Alt+S which fires up the Sage extensions and automatically detects the RSS feed for his blog. Then you're prompted to add the feed to your list. Choose OK. Then when you push the SAGE refresh button you get a screen that look like this.

Pretty cool! You see in the top left frame a list of blogs with Kevin's highlighted. In the frame just below it you see the title of each post, and in the main area you see blocks that show the title and a brief description of the post... so you can decide if you want to read a particular post.
Let's pick post #4. You can click the title from the main area or from the bottom left frame and you see something like this:

Hey! This is much better then html email. I don't have to sift through my inbox trying to decide which newsletter I am going to have a chance to read today. I get the news when I WANT it, and I don't have to worry about spam filters blocking it.
I know... I know... not the same ad having a list of email addresses you can count. But by using a link counter in your posts and giving away a general report once in a while, you can get get an idea of how many people are actually paying attention to your blog. And it can be a real bonus for those who weren't able to receive your newsletter.
In the link to my blog above are more instructions on how to set up Firefox to do this. If you can convince your readers to give Firefox a try, there is an opportunity here to get more visitors to your site.
Best Regards,

Steve,
How cool is this, nearly missed your post right down the bottom of the page.
Guy's, take some time to check this out...given the problems we all have in getting the message out these days, this could be a great resource.
Thanks for the heads up Steve, anything else you can add as to the versatility of Firefox would be appreciated.
Cheers

Steve, this is really useful. I have noticed that firefox and google has lots of new 'gimmicks' with regards to new features. They are initiative and proactive in their desire to serve their customers better.
This new feature, I have just learned that and I am very happy to learn about it so that I can also share with my friends. |
