|
|
This is a topic that has been covered many times before and is sure to come up again in the future.
The purpose of this post is to pose a question...
A good friend of mine ( A computer service tech ) has suggested that Acronis True Image - http://www.acronis.com is something we all should consider.
This software takes a mirror image of your data and makes for a simple restore if necessary.
He had cause to use it recently when I upgraded my computer and the transfer of data was quick, easy and problem free.
So back to my question, Does anyone else here have any experience with Acronis and or and other software solutions that are similar?
This is valuable information that we should share because one day the dreaded "Crash" could visit your computer and strike out a lifetimes work.
Let's have some feedback.
Cheers

A few nights ago, I had a horrible nightmare. I dreamed that my computer completely died and that I had to buy a new one.
I saw myself at the store picking it out, setting it up...the whole thing. It was just like I was doing it.
Then it got horrible. In my dream, my backup CD's wouldn't work! It kept telling me that the back up job wasn't right for the computer or something. IT WAS AWFUL! I literally woke up in a sweat.
My business is doing work for clients, and I do alot of ebooks...which are often 'works in progress' that take a while. If I were to lose several weeks of work due to hardware failure, I don't know what I would do.
What I learned from that nightmare is not to save my clients work as part of a backup. Instead, I just copy it to a CD - not by means of 'backup' - daily. As soon as I find a little time, I'm going to take a look and see what else is on my computer that I want to save, but not 'backup.'
Just my thoughts... |

For those that have even greater needs, and are afraid that one day their house might burn down, tornado blows it away, flood drowns it, you may consider doing offsite backup.
Right now I use something called datadepositbox for all my offline uploading needs and it's pretty cheap.
Also if you have extra web space, you can use your ftp client to ftp any sensitive information onto your site each night. I also do that just in case.
Cheers. |
