Macromedia's direct competitor, Laszlo has open-sourced its development suite. Laszlo is a presentation-layer system and application framework for creating rich Web applications that maintain desktop software qualities and ease of use.

There are several interactive demos on the website including applications and videos you can view/try at:

The program enables you to create interactive interfaces and applications for websites.

...it might be a little dry for some, but I enjoy it. They also send a hardcopy besides having most of their content online.
