Promote via Affiliate programs?
There are hundreds of different products available from downloadable eBooks through to hard goods that need to be shipped to your client.
So my questions are?
a) What do you sell as an affiliate?
b) Is it a downloadable product or does it need to be shipped?
c) How long have you been marketing the product or service?
d) How do you promote the programs?
e) What is the best revenue earner for you, downloadable or shipped goods?
I would be interested in your feedback.
Cheers

Am I missing something here or is no-one marketing using Affiliate Programs?
Or are you marketing your own product?
Or are you undecided and or haven't started yet?
Let's hear what part of the market you are in.
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
I have written a couple of ebooks, but I don't think they're ready to be marketed yet. Judging by what I see online, it looks like I have to have "groovy" cover images for the ebooks before I put them online.
To actually market them, all I've thought of so far is to (1) announce them in my email newsletters - perhaps build up some interest with "available soon!" msgs, (2) put them on my website pages in the form of adverts, and (3) now that I have a forum set up, I can possibly announce them there as well.
I haven't done much research on this (in case you hadn't noticed that ) but I'm sure there are places online where I could "announce" them - any tips?
... and now I think I may have posted this in the wrong section!
I don't think my products are the right material to be an Affiliate Program, but perhaps that's another way to sell them.
I love to help people, either by teaching them computer skills, small biz skills or creative pursuits, and I do love to write. Perhaps I haven't tapped into my own skill enough yet!
I have joined a couple of affiliate programs, but I think I jumped the gun a bit - I wasn't quite ready with my websites, so I didn't focus on which ones to sign up with or where I was going to place them on my site. I think I have an idea now how to proceed with this, but any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Teena

Hi Bob,
I am not sure here and forgive me if I have misunderstood your post but do you promote any programs at the moment?
I don't see a link to a website in your post so I am curious.
So are you looking for help in choosing a product?
If you would like to provide us with a little more detail we will be in a better position to offer some help and or advice.
Cheers

Hi All.
I love the idea of being an Affiliate and had a pay-per-click on google for Googlecash, an ebook. Clickbank handled the payment. I got a comission within 1 day of the ad so man, I was hooked!!. But that was it, haven't had a bite since.
Kevin has since contacted me to offer some advise on my website, youcandoitontheweb.com (yes. I spelt it right this time Kevin!!) which was designed as a warts and all website relating my difficulty in making a living online and promoting "The Super Affiliate Handbook", the best of the ebooks currently out there claiming you can make zillions just from pay-per-click ads!!! But I ain't had a sale yet. This is a massive learning curve and I would say the rules of business off-line apply equally on-line. Persistance, honesty and value for money must be offered if you wish to make a living on-line.
Affiliate is a great way to earn a living but I'm no way near yet able to leave my day job. ]
Cheers

Affiliate sales can be very profitable but more so if you are in a less competitive niche.
Rosalinds, Super Affiliate Handbook was when I last looked #1 seller on Clickbank in it's category, It is also being promoted by hundreds if not thousands of people.
I am in no way saying the book is not good, In fact it is a very good read but with so many people promoting it sales will be hard to come by.
From memory I have sold maybe three or four copies of it over the last eighteen months and this is with some quite heavy promotion.
My advice is to seek out a less competitive area and place some focus on that...It will not garantee you success but it will most likely increase your chances.
Cheers

Ok ... gulp ... here goes my confession!
I get a cheque every month for mentioning .... bras!
Yes, it's true - for over two years I have had a blurb on a couple of pages on a couple of my websites, and the cheques keep appearing. Not a ton of money, but almost every single month.
Kevin I'm sure you're right ... the key is to find something in a niche and promote it.
I also bought Rosalind's book, have had it on my website for about 8 months, and not one sale as an Affiliate. Every man and his dog has it on their website, and perhaps only a tiny amount of people are making money from it.
One tip I got from the affiliate program [for the bras] was not to just have a link, a banner or a clickthrough, but to *write* about the product as a *user* and share your experience.
I did this and the cheques are regularly rolling in.
I'm not saying this will work with everything, but it sure helped me.
Cheers
Teena!

I probably sell 1 or 2 of Rosalinds book every month - consistently for about a year and a half now. Those sales are not from active promotions, but rather articles by Rosalind that I have reprinted on my site (that rank well for various terms) which include her photo, book cover & my affiliate link to her site.
I'm in the top 10 on Google for "rosalind gardner" (those are old pages on my site I havent updated yet - ack! lol). And I get a lot of traffic from "rosalind gardner dating site" (I'm #1 for that one) and similar terms.

I sell a wide range of things online, from info-products to knick-knacks and even services/subscriptions... a variety of niches, of course. I have one affiliate site that is set up to sell physical products from 3 or 4 different merchants that does quite well, and this one is all from search engine traffic.
I have another site that I dont mind to share: http://www.CorkitUp.com . I'm on a local dart league so the site gets local word-of-mouth and I am also working on getting that one ranking (its one of my newer sites). It's making a decent sale or two a month already.
I have little pages off of established sites that market a specific product/service too that do well in the search engines, such as this one: http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/wholesale.htm . The program is for a membership to an eBay Certified drop shipper - pretty popular online.
In addition to ClickBank and CJ and all of the "regulars", I do sales through Wal-Mart.com, Amazon.com, eBay.com and other "major players". I like to work around things I think would be pre-sold, or name brands and household names. When it comes to physical products, that is. |
