I want to respond to a subscribers query so I am seeking your help...
Geoff wants to know what our best recommendation would be in regards to a suitable ebook or online program that offers a step by step guide to HTML for beginners.
There are many choices available so what do you suggest?
Cheers

Thanks Steve / Chris
I have passed your recommendations on...
Now Geoff poses another question,
Can you provide a simple explanation as to the FTP process as it relates to uploading files to your server and any software necessary?
Over to you Guy's.
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
This is a pretty easy one but rather than me explain I will give you a great tip.
Anytime you need an answer or definition, just go to google and type in "define:" plus what you what defined.
Eg: "define: ftp" comes up with the following page - http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&q=define%3A+ftp&btnG=Search
Cheers, Chris

Hi Kevin,
Last month I posted a basic FTP tutorial to my blog using the free FileZilla program. You can read the post here.

I normally offer this to my subscribers as a bonus but since you flat out asked, this ebook (PDF format) walks you through the complete process. I uses WS-FTP as the example program, but you can a free version to try out. The link is also included in the book.
How to FTP:

Hope this answers your question.

Hi Kevin,
You said:

I've been seeing a lot more posts in this last year from people who want to get a quick start on the Internet for their first business website. Many of these people don't want to take the time to learn html or programming languages, and in most cases if these people just want to offer a product or service using Clickbank or PayPal, there isn't any need to invest in months of studying.
It can be a lot easier then most people think.
I've just released a toolkit to help these people get started. It isn't free, but won't break anyone's bank account either.
I've spent several years answering questions on discussions forums and helping folks with their web problems. The problem with the question "how do I get started?" -- is that it is basically too broad of question. It is impossible to post a complete beginners guide in one post.
If your friend is still looking for a solution, please feel free to share my link with him.
Best Regards,

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the heads up on your book...I have passed your URL onto Geoff.
I have taken a look at the site and it looks like you have put together a great resource, given the price you are asking and the bonuses offered I may just pick up a copy myself.
You can always learn something new.
Quick question, Is the book based around using Nvu?
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
Nvu is the html editor used in the eBook, along with PhotoFiltre for graphics (a free program) and FileZilla for FTP, which is also free.

I recommend
HTML for the World Wide Web by Elizabeth Castro.
This contains just about everything you need to know about HTML, and the information is presented in a highly readable and engaging format.
It was this book that helped me get started, and it was recommended to me by fairly experienced HTML people. |
