Hi All,

I'm a long time user of Outlook Express but as my operation grows I feel that I need to advance to something more suitable.

Whilst my ISP provides some very good spam protection and I run my own system as well spam emails are limited but more than I need seem to get through.

What this does is add to my mailbox and places additional demands on my time, therefore genuine emails often get missed or my response time is longer than I would like it to be.

Can someone suggest a more suitable email management system that is easy to administer and control.

Cheers Wink

Hi All,

It has been suggested that I should dump Internet Explorer & Outlook Express altogether and replace them with products from Mozilla

I am told that Firefox & Thunderbird will give me all the management tools and security I need.

So my questions are;
Is anyone using Firefox & Mozilla?
Was it easy to install and configure?
Are there any issues that I should be aware of?

Or are there better alternatives?

Cheers Wink

Hi Kevin,

Thunderbird is a stand alone program. You don't have to have Firefox to use it. I set it up for my Used Car website business and in a matter of days it was recognizing most of the spam emails.

You know I keep hearing all this talk about SPAM, and I get LOADS of it... Probably 70% of the 1000 emails I get a day are SPAM. All the SPAM protection methods I have tried have still let some of the SPAM through but have mainly blocked the email that I want. It's SO annoying.

Okay, Kevin, a little off topic I know. Smile

Liz -

USE the spam! I use my spam to get article ideas and to see how ads are writen. I pay close attention to the ads that draw my attention, and figure out exactly what draws my attention.

I made a file to keep those really good spam ads in.

Spam has it's uses Smile

Hi All,

SPAM...Yuk I hate it, Yet others seem to like it, Kelly, I will send you some of mine!!!

I have got more filters running than you can count including one at my ISP that filters out some of the junk before I get it!!!

But it still get's through, I know we will not stop all of it but I want to at least stem the flow.

Steve - I know Thunderbird is a stand alone program but is their value in installing Firefox as well?

Questions, Is Thunderbird a difficult install?

What about my files in Outlook Express, can you transfer these to Thunderbird or do I have store them elsewhere?

In terms of useability how does Thunderbird rate?
1 - being easy - 10 - being Extremely difficult?

Cheers Wink

Hi Kevin,

I use Firefox as my default browser. I believe it to be safer then IE.

No Thunderbird isn't hard to install.

You can your import your mail, address book, and other settings into Thunderbird from Outlook Express. This isn't a feature I have tried though. I have never used Outlook Express.

In terms of ease of use. I would say it is easy to use. I don't think you would have any problem with it.
