I have a storefront from which I have an affiliate link for. I want to set up a redirect from my domain name to this storefont link.

I don't want to use the meta-refresh technique because the search engines don't like them.

Someone told me about a 301 permenant redirect using my .htaccess, but that's totally greek to me.

Yahoo (where I registered the domain name) offers a redirection service, but it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using it for over 3 weeks now and it doesn't work. I can't even get their customer support to help me.

Yahoo (I call it yaHELL) can't give me an answer so hopefully one of you guys can!

Liz

Hi Liz,

You said:

It is easy. What I'm going to tell you may not be applicable to sites being managed with FrontPage. I understand FrontPage has its own way of working with .htaccess.

I've also heard the re-directs on Yahoo! don't work, but I don't have any way of verifying it.

I would move the domain name over to a normal hosting account. A lot of hosting account will let you have multiple domains, and others will allow you to add-on another account for $10-$12 for the year.

Let's suppose this was an add-on account. There is a main directory assigned to this domain name.

Then you need to make sure there isn't already an .htaccess file there. If there is, download it in ASCII format and open it in Notepad. Add this line:

Redirect permanent / http://hop.clickbank.net/?username/productname

(I don't know if the affiliate program uses Clickbank. This is just an example.)

Save the file and upload it as ASCII to the root directory and that's it!!

Whoo hooo! That worked. Thank you so much Steve. The other person who was trying to tell me to do it, had me totally confused. I'm pretty net savvy, so I thought it was just way over my head.

Thanks for helping out!

Liz
