|
|
I'm seeking some help here from those more experienced than myself.
Can anyone offer an alternative to MS Outlook (Free if possible) as I have found Outlook to be riddled with problems and I would prefer something a little more secure.
If an alternative is available and it offers more features than Outlook all the better!
What are my choices if any?

Thank You Steve,
Pegasus has a really long list of "Impressive" features but it would be good if one could see a few screenshots of the system up and running.
I had a close look at the http://www.pmail.com site but I could not find any reference to some working pictures of Pegasus in action, maybe I missed the link?
Any help would be appreciated as it is a rather large download if one finds it's not what they are looking for even considering the fact it is free.

Thanks for the links.
The set up tutorial is great and simple to follow.
Guess what I will be doing this weekend?
Steve does the software have any bugs that I should be aware of?

I'm not aware of any problems although if you're using Vista there might be some problems. A page on their website described the issue here:
http://www.pmail.com/vista.htm
It says:
Pegasus Mail: For reasons not adequately explained, Windows Vista does not include a functional help system (WinHelp has been removed, and HTMLHelp has been crippled). This means that you will not be able to use the Pegasus Mail help system unless you download WinHelp from the official Microsoft site (we are forbidden to distribute or make it available ourselves). We are working on developing our own help system to work around this problem. Vista also places new restrictions on applications wishing to perform default system functions (in Pegasus Mail's case, acting as the default mail program). You will probably not be able to use Pegasus Mail as your default mail program for mailto: URLs under Vista until we produce registration code that complies with the new Vista rules. Finally, Windows now pops up a spurious and annoying warning any time you run an application that does not have a Microsoft Authenticode digital signature from a shared volume. Unfortunately, getting an Authenticode signature is an expensive and arduous process, but we will do so as soon as we can (note that this last issue is not specific to Vista - it will also occur on any Windows XP system where Internet Explorer 7 has been installed).

Thanks for the heads up Steve.
http://www.pmail.com has captured my interest as well, it could very well be the answer that I'm looking for.
MS Outlook has been a concern to me for sometime but I was not aware that there was other options to choose from.
Anyway I'm going to give it a try.

Tip:
If you notice Pegasus isn't displaying images in html email messages, when you have the message open that you would like to be able to view the graphics, right click in the body of the message and from the right-hand menu click "Show Pictures (HTML only)."
What is your experience so far? Love it? Hate it?

Well I have downloaded it but...
I have been a bit busy in the real world of late, you know the one on the other side of the monitor LOL!
Hopefully I will get to have a go at it this weekend, I will keep you posted.

LOL... yes I'm familiar with it. I spend my weekends through the Summer at my cottage. It's right on the water -- no phone, no Internet. If someone wants me for something, they have to actually drive to the cottage to come and get me
I like to spend my time biking, beach combing, and inviting a few friends over for a BBQ and a beer -- maybe even picking the guitars a little.
But I paid my dues -- I lived on the computer for enough years while I was building my business.

Keith is right, often we forget about the real world out there.
We all probably spend far to much time in front of the monitor, 21" of course, if we are going to play then we might as well play with the best LOL.
Like you Steve I like to get away to the beach when I can and switch off to the world...recently I purchased a beach front apartment some two hours from my home with the intention of kicking back and relaxing a little.
I haven't found the time yet!!
But I'm not sure how relaxing it might be when I do get a chance...the apartment has a wireless connection!!
Time to relax now...after I download http://www.pmail.com
Cheers

I thought the same way...
Two years ago, I called the phone company about putting in a phone at the cottage. I was thinking at that time that I would have a phone and I could also have the Internet there. They said it would take about a month before they could hook me up.
During that month, I thought about it. When they called me back to confirm the order, I canceled.
