I am considering using a Ghost Writer to prepare a number of reports for me.
Basically my intention is to have approx 15 to 20 reports (Chapters) written for me on a topic that is of real interest to many at present.
Each report will be approx 10 to 15 pages in length, I will probably offer the first two reports free of charge to create interest and then compile the total into a book and market it.
My real question is...does anyone have experience with Ghost Writing services?
I am aware of http://www.elance.com and http://www.rentacoder.com but are their others that I should be considering?
What is deemed to be a suitable charge rate for Ghost Writing services?
Are there any other factors I need to consider?
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
I don't know much about these things, but I know Kelly Lowe from www.allbusinesspublishing.com offers this type of service.

I've been looking for one also, Kevin, and I didn't want to go the Elance route... After searching for one, I decided to go to Guru.com and post my project. There is a lot of good talent there, and at REALLY good prices. I haven't decided who I am going to use yet because now I have so many choices!

Hi Kevin and Liz,
Kelly Lowe, from www.allbusinesspublishing.com does this kind of work. I've recommended a couple of others to her who have been very happy with her work.
Best Regards,

Actually, I think you'd be better off posting at Craigslist or through Deb Ng at http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html. The reason I say this is because a lot of really good freelancers don't bother with the bid sites, simply because they get undercut by people who are willing to work for peanuts.
It's one of those "you get what you pay for" things. |

true - remember that on those bidding sites a cut sometimes goes to the site as well, so the bidders are going to not only try to undercut each other but inflate it to a degree that theywon't lose money!
it's a vicious world... |

I would be interested in some feedback in regards to any of the services quoted.
Who have you used?
What was your experience, Good or Bad?
How do you determine what is a fair bid for the work you want done?
Regards

I am interested what everyone's experience overall with ghostwriters has been. I would personally be very cautious about what I allowed to be published with my name on it, as I would want to build up a good rep for selling e-books.
That said, I understand that we do not all have the time or the energy to be able to write about all the things that we want. Do you aim to have only one writer for your whole project, or a number? Can people tell that the writing style isn't really yours? Does it take a lot of editing to make all of it sound like one author?

if it's a highly technical book, I'd make sure that each writer, if you have more than one, has a good grasp of how much detail they have to put into their chapter to make it coherent and flow from one to the other.
but I can't see why you would hire more than one writer.. |

You can also check out www.freelancewriting.com to find ghost writers. You can post the job on the forum and have potentials e-mail you with their credentials and references.
I haven't had much experience with ghost writers but generally speaking you should make sure that the person you're hiring is knowledgable in the area you require and also has a good grasp of the language you want them to write in.
Perhaps when solicting you can ask them to write a mini paper on the subject so that you can judege their writing ability, style and knowledge of the subject. |

| it's also going to be a case of how well *you* work with the person - if you're going to be at odds, it's not worth it. Maybe include in the contract an "out" provision so that if you don't get along you can both go your separate ways without too much trouble... |

Kevin,
So what has your experience been?
Any problems or issues that you need to cover off before appointing a writer?
Regards
